Community Collaboration Sparks Hope in Botha’s Hill

At Forward Durban, operating through the All Shall Prosper Movement, we believe in bridging the gap between communities and decision-makers—and the recent breakthrough in Botha’s Hill is a powerful example of this in action.

After enduring ongoing disruptions to essential services such as water and electricity, the Botha’s Hill Business and Community Leaders had grown increasingly frustrated by a lack of response and accountability from municipal departments. Despite their persistent efforts to raise the alarm, their concerns remained unaddressed.

Through the ASP network, the community was connected with ACDP eThekwini Councillor Jameel Essop, who responded swiftly and decisively. Within just one week, Councillor Essop facilitated a critical meeting between the Botha’s Hill community and municipal representatives from the Water and Electricity departments.

The result was a productive and solution-oriented engagement—a pivotal moment that restored hope and brought tangible outcomes to the residents of Botha’s Hill. Service delivery challenges were formally acknowledged, and a follow-up process is now in place to monitor progress and ensure accountability.

This effort marks more than just an administrative success—it signifies a shift in how communities are heard, valued, and supported. Councillor Essop’s involvement was met with overwhelming gratitude, and the ASP Movement is proud to have played a role in facilitating this connection.

“Together, we can forge a path toward a better city for all.”

We commend Councillor Jameel Essop for championing the voices of Durban’s citizens and for proving that active, responsive leadership can change lives.
