As he has worked for many international companies gaining a wealth of experience nationally and in Africa Gavin has built a vast network of Developers and professionals alike. As a founder of Umthunzi Energy, he is passionate about creating opportunities that drive economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development. Gavin is actively involved in property development initiatives, urban renewal projects, and energy efficiency programmes across KwaZulu-Natal. He is committed to building strong partnerships between business, government, and communities to help unlock Durban’s full economic potential.
What makes you hopeful about Durban’s future?
Durban has incredible assets: its people, its port, its entrepreneurial spirit, and its strategic location as a gateway to Africa. How do you see your sector contributing to Durban’s economic revival?
The construction, property, and energy sectors play a critical role in stimulating economic growth. New developments create jobs, attract investment, improve infrastructure, and increase confidence in the city. Energy efficiency and sustainable building practices also help businesses reduce costs while improving environmental performance. By encouraging development and supporting investment, our sector can become a catalyst for long-term economic recovery.
