The Forward Durban Hospitality & Tourism Sector Action Team recently participated in Africa’s Travel Indaba 2025, held from May 13–15 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) and Durban Exhibition Centre (DEC). This premier travel and tourism trade show, themed “Unlimited Africa,” brought together over 1,300 exhibitors from 27 African countries and more than 1,200 international buyers from 55 source markets.

The team’s attendance marked the initiation of a strategic collaboration aimed at revitalizing KwaZulu-Natal’s (KZN) tourism sector. By engaging with industry stakeholders, the team seeks to enhance both domestic and international tourism, thereby stimulating the regional economy and fostering job creation through targeted skills development.

Africa’s Travel Indaba 2025 not only showcased the continent’s diverse tourism offerings but also underscored the economic impact of such events. The trade show contributed an estimated R574 million to Durban’s GDP and supported over 2,000 jobs, particularly benefiting youth and local communities.

Building on the momentum from the Indaba, the Forward Durban Hospitality & Tourism Team is scheduling meetings to present their comprehensive strategy. The focus is on implementing plans that will increase market share and position Durban as a leading destination for travellers.
